On Saturday 11 August 2024 at 16:00, the alderman for culture Mrs Marcelle Hendrickx will open the last exhibition of Luycks Gallery in the series 'A Joy For Ever'.
27 artists associated with the gallery, including Jan Doms, will show their work for the last time in this unique international Tilburg gallery that will close its doors after this 'swan song'. Ingrid Luycks, the initiator and figurehead, owes a lot of thanks and respect. For Jan Doms, Luycks Gallery and its predecessor Galerie Kathareze (1983 - 2008 / initiator: Carine Bedaux) had a special significance for the part of his work that consists of (travel) drawings, typography, wall sculptures, assemblages and related.
A special object that Jan Doms created in 1998 as a new project space for Galerie Kathareze was the 12-meter long 'Wagon', built in the narrow outdoor space with steel and glass. After changes and construction activities in the situation on site, the wagon had to make way. The wagon was then shown in the Polygonaalhal in the so-called Spoorzone of Tilburg.
The wagon was then included in the collection of the renowned Verbeke Foundation near Antwerp in Belgium. Download: overview sculpture Jan Doms 2020 kl.pdf |
